My daughter is in the weekend camp on Saturday mornings, this program started off really strong and a lot of the girls were engaged and have learned a lot of great skills. I’ve watched my daughter progressively improve throughout her time at the camp. But as we’re now later into the camp, they’ve rarely scrimmaged so when it comes time for tournaments, you can tell the girls haven’t had enough practice. Undoubtedly, there are benefits to doing exercises to build muscle memory but the entire practice is nothing but exercises and they’re missing out on an extremely vital component to learning how to play volleyball. They only scrimmage for the last 10-15 minutes of the 1.5hr practice which is not long enough for them to get into a rhythm and utilize all the skills they’ve been learning. Many of the parents are frustrated about this as well because I’ve spoken to the other parents about the lack of scrimmaging and they’ve all validated that they feel exactly the same way that I and my daughter do. The camp would improve immensely if they just committed half of the practice to exercises and the other half or more doing scrimmages. If they take this review into consideration I will edit this review and change it to 5 stars. All the coaches are great, they’re good with the kids and are outgoing, the equipment is great and the place is nice. It’s just the lack of scrimmaging that really stands out as a major negative and if they just changed this one thing it would be a 10/10 experience for the girls.
My daughter did this through her school district. And it has to be the most sorry excuse for a sports league. The parents pay a good amount of money for their kids to never have a present coach, go to tournaments and the coaches have zero clue what’s going on, send all the kids home early so they can’t even participate in all games. During the practices at school, you would see the girls sitting on the benches not practicing for 30 minutes at the end of practice. And most of the time the coach wasn’t at the practice either. Completely disappointing and feel like we got ripped off paying for something so pathetic.
The best in Bakersfield
